From hurricane Sandy in New York to mega floods in Cities of China, the changing climate has influenced urban sustainability and quality of life in different parts of the world. This need a renewed science focus on climate change and cities. Owing to this, East China Normal University and Columbia University will co-organize a forum on it. We also plan to set up the East Asian hub for Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN) during the forum and produce a report on the proceedings of climate change and cities. The Forum will highlight the width and scope of ongoing climate change and disaster risk reduction research, strengthen the highly interdisciplinary urban geography community, inspire new research and facilitate review, theory building and extrapolation, and support decision making and co-production of knowledge.
The Shanghai forum will focus on climate change in New York, Shanghai and other world cities, and covers the following main themes:
¬ Climate change risks in cities
¬ Impacts of climate change on cities
¬ Adaptation and resilience to urban disasters
